How to dress up a gift card present May 30, 2009

We have a graduation and 18th birthday party to attend tomorrow.  I bought Target gift cards for both parties.  I already had it in mind to make cards this evening.  When I was done and went to put the gift cards and homemade cards in the envelope, they just didn’t look like presents.

With a little bit of embellishments I dressed up the cards.  Simple supplies as you can see. Now they look like presents.  How do you dress up gift cards?

A little bit of grillin’ going on May 25, 2009

My mom spoils me.  But don’t worry I am not a spoiled brat :) .  At least I don’t think I am ???  This week she thought I had to have the George Foreman standing grill. She and my dad have one and just love it.  So I come home from work one day and there is one sitting in my living room. Thanks mom and dad! I am 47 yrs old and feel like a spoiled child!

Sunday evening, my daughter Val is at work and it is just Zach and I. So I say “Zach would you like to cook dinner tonight?” He is all over it!!! He washes his hands and is ready to go.  He cleans the corn and gets that going, we heat up the George Foreman and he seasons the burger and gets ready for grilling!  He was really excited about it and here he is cooking and eating!  I think he may be the new griller in the house! His grandpa and daddy will be proud! I will be sure to make sure they get these photos in their Fathers Day cards!  And I have to tell you that this little grill is great, didn’t have to wait for coals to get just right or turn on the propane. I felt it was pretty safe for an 11 year old to use with adult supervision of course. And let me tell you the clean up is sooooo easy! I highly recommend this little griller!

Mom also saw this little cutie at Smart Foods and thought it would be perfect on my front porch.  Of course she was right and I love it. But again, I feel like a spoiled brat.  I guess I must be somewhat of a good daughter for mom to be thinking of me all the time.  I love you mom!!!!

Techno problems Resolved! Hurray!!! May 23, 2009

My memory card was the problem with my camera.  That has been replaced! Then my computer just DIED last Sunday.  Luckily the good techs at Staples were able to fix it!!! So, I think I am officially done with techno problems for a while at least I hope!!!  These techno problems are so frustrating!!!

Still working on my giveaway ideas.  So stay tuned in!!!!

I had mentioned wanting to spruce up my bedroom.  My nice friend Terry lent me a pretty robin egg blue comforter and shams.  So I was able to start my redecorating on the “cheap”.  Went to Wal Mart and got brown pillowcases, a couple brown pillows and a brown queen fitted sheet for a bedskirt.  So here is what I have so far.  Much better than beige and faded dull celery green!

momsroom 001

I didn’t have the brown pillowcases for this shot.  They are in the dryer right now.  Now I have to figure some inexpensive ideas for my 3 windows.  There are two smaller windows on either side of my dresser and a larger window in the corner of the room.  I found these toppers at our annual church rummage sale.  But I am thinking long brown panels wtih robin egg blue ribbon tie backs??? 1 panel per small window and 2 panels on the larger window?? What do you think?? Let me know.  Thanks!

A Wonderful Mother’s Day! May 11, 2009

Still no photos. Sorry!

But I just had to write about this Mother’s day.  First the funny part. My 11 yr old son Zach made me a card with information about me.  He says “My mother likes to have fun and be loose”.  Now before you go getting any ideas, like I am sure his teacher did, I must explain. My son and I share a great sense of humor, and we have lots of laughs, and that is what he meant by “be loose”  But it was pretty darn funny! And thankfully anyone who knows me, knows I am not the other definition of “loose”.  I got a good laugh on that one!  Then we move on to happy tears.  My beautiful 20 yr old daughter Valerie bought me a silver and diamond mother ring.   That is the most thoughtful thing this child has ever done for me.  She gave me the ring before church and I just cried.  The ring is beautiful, I will post a photo soon.  Then on we went to church where the message was so beautiful that I cried yet again!!! So needless to say by the time we finished brunch with the family I was wiped out!  But I got a second wind and went for a nice bike ride and spent the rest of the evening with one of my best friends and her family.  I have way too many blessings!!!

Just some random stuff no photos!!! May 9, 2009

Foiled  again!!! I swear if it isn’t one thing it is another with my techno stuff.  My memory card now isnt’ working, can’t take or transfer photos.  Bummer!!!

Did  some retail therapy today!!! Had a $30 Bed Bath and Beyond gift card in my purse for over 2 months!!! What the heck is wrong with me? I usually spend gift cards as quickly as I spend cash!!! Today I found a cool 10X mirror for some serious eyebrow plucking!!! And 2 pillow covers for my living room. Woohoo!! Now that I came home and put them together I realized I need to go back for two more!!! The covers are only $9.99 at BB&B and they have a lot of patterns to choose from. The ones I bought are a rusty red wtih some gold scrolling. Very pretty!!!

Then I went over to Kohl’s with  my 15% off card.  Actually I had 2 and they let me use them both!!!! Score!!! I got my mom some cool summer PJ’s and a light summer robe for Mothers Day, got my dad a cool Adidas shirt for his birthday, got my son some new undies and got myself 2 pretty tank tops all for just under $100.00 What fun!! Wish I had $100 more to spend! I am liking this retail therapy!!!

Still haven’t painted the living room wall, but the new pillows add a splash of color!  Mydaughter shampooed the carpet. That in itself was a wonderful Mothers day gift, but she is alo treating me to a pedicure tomorrow. She has grown into quite the generous young lady!

Next I am on to my bedroom that needs to be foofied up!!! It is all beige and celery right now, looks pretty dull! I am thinking red and beige. What do you think? My old curtains were falling apart and I found some cool window toppers at our annual church rummage sale last weekend.(they are beige) I took pictures, but then the memory card died!  I should have bought a new one today while I was getting my therapy! Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

Pretty Paper baskets April 30, 2009

I mentioned the Stampin’ Up Top Note die cut in my Catching Up post. Here is another cool use for it.  These cute little basket/bags are so easy to make!My craft mentor Julia was kind enough to give me her old Cuttlebug when she purchased her new Big Shot from Stampin’ Up.  I bought the Top Note die and can cut it myself!

These are made with small white bags, I cut most of the bag off and leave a short tiny bag, cut 2 Top Notes and adhere to both sides of the bag, then I punch out a small scallop oval for the handle and use the cut oval and some embellishments to finish off the bag. Then tie up with a ribbon. I love these! Another good idea for so many occasions.  Just one reminder on these, you must use double sided paper.  This beautiful paper is from the Raspberry Tart collection at Stampin’ Up.

A little bit of catching up to do April 30, 2009

Filed under: Good things to share — lemondrop12 @ 12:40 am

Finally got the camera to download. So I really do have a little catching up to do. Bear with me!

First, we go back to February and my niece Shelby’s 15th birthday.  I made her a little cake, Dr. Suess style.  If you look closely you can see it is lopsided! Oh well! And then cupcakes for the group. Shelby loved the cake even though it was lopsided!

Next we go to that unfinished wall in my living room. Here is my temporary solution.  I had previously used the artsy squares at another home, then lent them to my mom when I wasn’t using them.  She gave them back to me. I think we are both nuts! I found the metal piece at the Galt Market for $20.00. I haven’t painted yet, but when I do, who knows,  I may go back to black and white artwork.

Now we go to an inexpensive corkboard project.  Paint the frame black, use 3m spray adhesive and an inexpensive piece of fabric and there you have it! The most expensive item was the spray adhesive, but it’s a big can, so I should get quite a few projects out of it.

misc-003

Now we have a few cool things I learned from Stampin’ Up.  The purse is made with the Top Note die cut. This is the coolest die cut! You can do so much with it.  The wrapped candy bar is the greatest idea for any occasion party favor. The little basket was more on the difficult side. It was also made with Stampin’ Up die cuts.

Technical Difficulties and such! March 18, 2009

I haven’t posted anything for a while.  I finally got some “down” time on Monday to create.  I was so excited!!! I made some decopauge peet pot Easter baskets.  Tried out  fabric adhesive and covered a box lid with fabric for cupcakes and made a cool corkboard! I think black spray paint and fabric adhesive are my two new favorites! I just want to paint everything black and glue fabric to it!!! Took pictures, cool! Went to download to computer—NOTHING!

Funny, since I have let my son loose on my computer I am beginning to have problems with it. Hmmmm, could it be all those games he is downloading?  I am going to have to get to the bottom of this!

So no pic’s to show!

On a better note, my friend and craft mentor Julia is now a Stampin’ Up demonstrator and is coming out to my house Saturday (3/21) at noon to do a couple of  FREE, yes FREE make and takes.  Normally distributors charge for this.  Soo, if you are in the Lodi area and want to check this out,  send me a comment and I will get back to you.

And please stay tuned in. I will get to the bottom of my camera to computer problem and will be doing a giveaway soon!

Thanks for stopping by!
